UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Elizabeth Cutezo, a Penn State College of Nursing assistant teaching professor, was selected to attend the recent American Association of Colleges of Nursing 2019 Digital Innovation Bootcamp.
The bootcamp was a three-day intensive educational program hosted at Apple's campus in Austin, Texas, this past summer. The program aimed to apply learning theories and education models that could be used to inspire the inclusion of digital content in nursing courses. The event was sponsored by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and Apple Education.
Cutezo was selected for her innovative idea of incorporating the use of an iPad in assisting individuals that are homebound and receiving home healthcare visits. Her idea included the use of an iPad for physical assessments, assessing IV sites, and communicating with the client and their caregiver between visits. In addition, podcasts on discharge instructions and medications can be uploaded and uniquely designed for each homebound individual to relay and repeat information that may have been forgotten.
To be chosen for the program, Cutezo was required to complete the Apple Teacher Certification, which is a professional learning program designed to support and celebrate educators using Apple products for teaching and learning.
"I really enjoyed meeting other faculty nationwide with the mutual interest of graduating technically competent nursing students for the new workforce,” said Cutezo.
The program selected 35 distinguished faculty members out of a pool of 140. Cutezo’s selection for this program demonstrates her commitment to providing innovative educational practices to better educate Penn State nurses.
Cutezo also participates in the Penn State mHealth Challenge as a faculty adviser, which helps community nursing students develop a health idea, then collaborate with information science and technology students and biobehavioral health students to create a workable, technological solution. She is also a member of Penn State StartUp week which showcases student’s technology inventions throughout the University.
